The good old days...

Leela is an amazing dog -- can you believe she's already 1 year and 4 months old?

I came across this picture and started reminiscing about her as a small puppy -- with puppy fuzz!

Leela & the Engagement

My sister got engaged this weekend (Congratulations!). We had a ceremony at our house, and invited family and friends. Naturally, we put Leela outside to enjoy the garden during the ceremony. She would have caused too much ruckus if we kept her inside. Poor thing, she barked insanely while she was outside. I had to go out halfway through and hold her so that she knew we didn't forget about her. As soon as she could, she ran back into the house and made friends with everyone there.

Puppy Play Time

Shelties are skittish and it takes them a long time to get used to new people and dogs. Leela is no exception. To get her more used to interacting with different dogs, we've started taking her to Small Dog Puppy Play Time at Titan's Kingdom. It seems to help a little, but she still gets very agitated and salivates a lot. Maybe a few more sessions...

Leela & my Dad

Look at how she makes him smile! Leela has just brought so much happiness to all of us. Whoever said you can't buy happiness never adopted a puppy!

Sleepy Sheltie

I always get a kick out of the crazy positions Leela decides to fall asleep in!

Leela, where is your DOLL?

We found out that Leela is a LOT like her mom. The breeder told us that her mom (named Honey) was hugely attached to a certain set of stuffed animals, and whenever they would ask her "Where are your babies?" she used to go get her stuffed animals and bring them over. Leela does the same thing, but instead of calling them babies, we ask Leela "Where is your DOLL?" She stops, thinks, and looks around. If she can't see it, so goes and checks out places where she may have likely left it (the kitchen, the living room, behind the sofa). She is just so smart.

Here she is, taking a nap on her doll after a fun day of play.

Puppy Shower

I was so lucky when I adopted Leela - a kind co-worker decided to throw me a Puppy Shower. As a new pet owner, I knew I was in for some adventures, but I had no idea that bringing home a puppy was nearly very similar to bringing home a new baby: Waking up in the nights to let Leela out, holding her in the night when she was scared and crying, and puppy-proofing the home so she doesn't get at things she shouldn't be chewing.

When I was offered a puppy shower, I gladly took it! It was a great opportunity to introduce Leela to my friends and co-workers, and collect items for her that I would need. My friends with dogs brought gifts of their dogs favorite toys and treats, and everyone gave me tips on puppy training and grooming. I went home with two arms full of goodies for Leela to enjoy as she grows up. I can't wait for one of my friends to adopt a puppy so I can return the favor!
